Why Does Keystone Use YouTube?

Posted on December 29, 2011 by Angela Scruggs

We get this question, surprisingly, a lot. And every time I try to answer, I get a little tongue-tied like a sixth grader with stage fright at her speaking part in a Christmas play. It’s not like I’m about to give a Presidential speech or anything, I just really want to convince this inferior question-asker that the choice is bigger than “YouTube trumps Vimeo in any situation on any day!”

For one, we want to reach a wide audience. The videos we support are going on your websites, the sites we build. That means all categories of content. Dentists, contractors, landscapers, doctors, all sorts of professionals have videos on their websites. And overall, these professionals all want to reach potential customers with their website and videos. That is why we have chosen the largest video sharing site on the Internet, YouTube. With over 1800 years worth of video, YouTube attracts all kinds of viewers.

Secondly, in our CMS (Kentico) you can embed YouTube videos without any issue or fuss. There is an easy to use format that makes embedding YouTube videos super easy through Kentico. And that is what a Content Management System is all about right? CMS is created to guide you through editing your website. The interface is easy to understand and get used to and embedding YouTube videos is just another task made simple.

Vimeo is for people who love making high quality, artistic movies on expensive equipment and like watching other people’s expensively made movies in between. This is Vimeo's niche market. And it serves this market well.

Now, if you're business is an indie-loving, video making business or expensive camera shop, Vimeo was made for you. And if you are a striving indie-loving, video groupie, go ahead and jump on that bandwagon.

We are here to build websites that market your business to customers and to us that means reaching your target audience. So when it comes to optimizing your video views, we choose YouTube over Vimeo. This argument can be sorted in with the many other competing lead brand products like Apple vs. Microsoft and the likes. There will always be passionate defenders of each and very few that dabble in both.
