We are the target of more messages than at any point in human history. Television, Radio, display advertising, email, social media, websites, and blah blah blah blah blah. It seems the more information we have at our fingertips, the less we know and much of it is useless.
But before you give up, I'd like to recommend podcasts as a way to connect with meaningful learning in a way that isn't distracting. Yes, podcasts. What is a podcast you might ask? Think of it as a song, like the live 25 minute long version of Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. It's an audio file that just so happens to be more like a radio broadcast than a song. Some are shorter, some longer, most are great at giving you something to ponder while driving (my choice for podcast time...that or Zeppelin.)
So if you have a smartphone (or even an old iPod) you can download podcasts much like songs. Where do you get said podcasts? Well, you iPhone people have the standard "Podcasts" app. There you'll find "featured" podcasts in a plethora of categories. Look around. Some of my favorites include (a little business, a little fun):
You Android people can do the podcast thing too...I hear Stitcher Radio is a great choice. If you want to REALLY get nerdy, there are other apps out there...Overcast is my favorite for iPhone.
So get out there and explore. All the cool kids are doing it.
