The Biggest Small Business Marketing Mistake You Can Make
by Eric Jackson
“If you don’t tell your story, someone else will.” It’s not known to whom we can attribute this quote. What I do know however, is that it’s the truth. Too often in the small business world, we fail to tell the story of who we are, what we do, and what makes us special and different than our competitors.
This widespread business miscalculation typically manifests itself in the form of failing to establish a marketing budget. Which means that there is no marketing plan. And probably a deep mistrust and lack of understanding surrounding marketing at the small business level.
In my experience, it’s usually because the small business owner doesn’t think it’s very important. “Why would I spend that kind of money to create content on my a fancy website? My customers don’t buy on the internet!” Riiiight. Who do you know that doesn’t use Google (or a similar substitute) to find what they need? It’s 2017, people. EVERYBODY is researching their options before making a decision.
So you have a choice: bury your head in the sand and refuse to tell your story and get your brains beaten in by those who do…or wake up and tell your story.
